Pole Dancing as an Art Form
When most people first think of Pole Dancing, they think of seedy adult clubs and bars, with men, strangers to the girls, leering at barely dressed ladies coverting around a pole for entertainment, money, a glimpse of something more, perhaps a paid invite to a private room. That’s the seedy image that was associated with pole dancing. But Pole Dancing is shedding that image. Sure that side of it will continue, and if those concerned in and with it are happy in what they see and do, then who are we to complain and judge. As Jesus said, “he who..” You know the quote!. Pole Dancing is so much more than the image presented above. For example, you could view two images, which, on first viewing, appear very similar, if not the same image captured from a different angle. The first a lady in a vertical position with legs outstretched above and head and hair far below in an almost straight line and the second identical except for one thing. The first lady is supporting her own body weight against a vertical dance pole. The second is supporting herself above a horizontal beam. The gymnast takes acclaim, respect and possible Olympic gold medals whereas the Pole Dancer may receive few awards or recognition but is talented in her own right and sections of society have looked down on her. Pole Dancing is not necessarily about sex or men’s entertainment anymore than gymnastics is, unless the dancers choose to present it in such a way. Graceful, skilful, entertaining and requiring a great deal of dedication to achieve a high standard, just as the art of gymnastics requires. And yes it could spice up your relationship too, if your partner does a private pole dance in your own home, just for you!
