Horus: Ancient Egypt's Sun God

Horus was the Ancient Egyptian personification of the sun, or god of the sun if you like, or simply "Sun God".

Horus was, according to their legends,

1. Born of December 25th
2. The son of a virgin.
3. A Star appeared in the East which was followed by three Kings who followed it to adorn Horus with gifts. (The sun rises in the East, by the way, and last time I asked an astronomer, he said it was a star.)
4. He was a teacher by the age of 12 years.
5. He was baptised at aged 30 years and started a ministry.
6. He had 12 disciples.
7. He was known as.."the light", "the truth" and "lamb of god".
8. He was cucified, was dead for three days and resurrected.

There are obviously some similarities here with some religions which are followed to this day. I don't want to single out any one religion in particular and get accused of disrepecting it, but there are more than two or three others!

I found the information rather interesting and you can do some research of your own into the interesting religions of the world which all claim to be "the truth".

It raises a few more questions for me, but you can write it off as a coincidence if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Well, that is genuinely fascinating. I shall have to do some research on Horus, myself!

I think you might find that you have confused Horus with Mithra.

Best wishes,
Dirk

Hi Dirk, I had a peek around Amazon & discovered

http://www.amazon.com/Christ-Egypt-Horus-Jesus-Connection-Murdock/dp/0979963117 (3000 B.C.)

Combined with a study on Mithras (Persia - 100 B.C. to 400 A.D.)
http://www.amazon.com/Mysteries-Mithras-Belief-Shaped-Christian/dp/1594770271/ref=sr_1_...

My very uneducated guess is that Egyptian thought spread East and mutated into both Mithraism & Christianity. It couldn't go West as those tribes were, essentially barbarians.

Hi Andrew,

I know exactly what you mean! I live in the North and the people living to the West of me are total barbarians!

Best wishes,
Dirk
